Ok, so when was the last time you took time out of your busy schedule to enjoy the simple things in life? If you’re anything like me, your life gets kinda hectic and you miss fun activities that are easily accessible. When you finally do slow down you may be pleasantly surprised. For instance, my wife Zada and I heard about a spot where families could get together and enjoy a nice peaceful time in a strawberry farm.

This 4-acre  strawberry farm is owned by Lance and Cindy McDonald. They along with their sons Connor and Lucas have owned the quiet little spot for 14 years. I say quiet because the day Zada and I stopped by there were only a few families. It just so happened we showed up towards the end of the season. According to Lance, this spot can get pretty crowded especially on holidays like Mother’s day.

Not only does the Strawberry Farm have strawberries, they also have some delicious freshly made strawberry ice cream. There is also a quiet picnic area overlooking a small pond. You can tell when you stop by that the McDonalds love what they do. Imagine having your own farm where you can see families come together and enjoy nature while enjoying a fresh product you worked hard for. I imagine the McDonald’s must be proud of their efforts.

Here are a few possible benefits of fresh strawberries….. (Info obtained from http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/271285.php)

(1) Heart Disease- Regular consumption of anthocyanins, a class of flavonoids found in berries, can reduce the risk of a heart attack. (2) The antioxidants quercetin, kaempferol, and anthocyanins have all been shown to reduce the formation of harmful blood clots associated with stroke. (3) Cancer-Strawberries contain powerful antioxidants that work against free radicals, inhibiting tumor growth and decreasing inflammation in the body. (4) Blood Pressure- Due to their high potassium content, strawberries are recommended to those with high blood pressure to help negate the effects of sodium in the body. (5) Constipation- Eating foods that are high in water content and fiber like strawberries, grapes, watermelon and cantaloupe can help to keep you hydrated and your bowel movements regular (Can you say very important?). Fiber is essential for minimizing constipation  and adding bulk to the stool.

Thanks, Lance and Cindy for an enjoyable visit.
